Fatal crash on I-225 in Aurora, police reopen northbound lanes

A motorcyclist tragically lost their life in a collision involving four vehicles in Aurora on Friday afternoon, as reported by the Aurora Police Department. The incident took place near Smith Road on I-225 at around 3 p.m. Following an initial investigation, authorities revealed that a female motorcyclist traveling northbound struck a vehicle in front of her that was slowing down for traffic. Subsequently, she was hit by a second northbound vehicle, with a fourth vehicle also being part of the crash. Despite being rushed to a hospital with critical injuries, the woman sadly passed away shortly after her arrival. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, and all vehicles involved remained at the scene. The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the interstate between U.S. Highway 40 (Colfax Avenue) and Interstate 70, diverting traffic to 17th Place. After approximately two hours, the lanes were reopened around 4:45 p.m. Police investigators indicated on Friday evening that they do not suspect speed or intoxication played a role in the collision.
