Fatal crash on 5 Freeway in San Diego

A fatal incident occurred when a white sedan veered off the 5 Freeway in San Diego, crashing into a tree and igniting in flames, according to authorities. The California Highway Patrol received reports of a brushfire at 5:50 p.m. on Friday along the southbound San Diego Freeway near the Tocayo off-ramp. Witnesses reported that the sedan started smoking before catching fire and spreading to the surrounding dry brush, leading to a fire the size of 10 cars. Additionally, witnesses mentioned a white BMW driving recklessly in the vicinity prior to the accident. The CHP confirmed one fatality, prompting the arrival of the Medical Examiner's office. The vehicle was found 60 feet off the road. A SigAlert was put in place at 6:33 p.m., closing the off-ramp until around 10:30 p.m.
