Fatal crash involving pedestrians in Queens
A tragic accident occurred in Queens on Saturday resulting in the death of a pedestrian and injuries to another person, and neighbors are raising concerns about the unsafe conditions at the intersection in South Richmond Hill. The incident took place when a silver Scion had stopped to let two pedestrians cross the street on Liberty Avenue, but was then rear-ended by a Mercedes, causing the Scion to strike the pedestrians. Despite efforts from bystanders, including volunteers from a nearby church, a 51-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries while the 34-year-old woman was hospitalized with head and neck injuries. Residents in the area have expressed worries about the dangerous nature of the intersection at Liberty Avenue and the Van Wyck Service Road, citing a previous fatal incident a few years ago. Local authorities are investigating the recent crash, but no charges have been filed yet.
