Fatal Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles on Hwy 23 in Burke Co.
UPDATE, 8:48 A.M. - The Burke County Sheriff's Office has reported a fatality following an accident that closed part of Highway 23. Deputies were called to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Monday morning between Jack Delaigle Road and Hancock Landing Road. Initial findings indicate that a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Highway 23 was hit by a large deer, causing them to lose control and fall into the westbound lane before being struck by a pickup truck. The motorcycle driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The Burke County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate. Authorities are currently at the scene of a multiple-vehicle collision with serious injuries, leading to the closure of Highway 23 between Hancock Landing and Jack Delaigle Road. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
