Fatal crash involving motorcycle and pedestrian on Saturday evening

A tragic accident in northeast Des Moines late Saturday evening resulted in the death of a young person in a collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that emergency services received a call about the incident around 11 p.m. on Saturday on NE 29th Street. After arriving at the scene, deputies found a male juvenile who had been hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road. Immediate life-saving efforts were initiated by the deputies and continued by Fire and Rescue teams, but despite their efforts, the minor succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a local hospital. The motorcyclist, identified as 23-year-old Kaelin Meinders, also sustained injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, and no additional information is available pending the ongoing investigation.
