Fatal crash involving fire truck at Wood Lake results in one death and two injuries

A recent incident in Cottonwood involving a fire truck rollover crash tragically resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others. The Yellow Medicine Sheriff's Office responded to the crash that occurred on 490th Street just before 6:40 p.m. on Friday. The Wood Lake fire truck had overturned with three individuals inside, leading to the fatality of a 43-year-old man who was found trapped under the vehicle. The other two occupants, identified as 37-year-old Andrew Vanhecke and 6-year-old Beaux Vanhecke, were airlifted to hospitals for medical treatment. The conditions of these individuals have not been disclosed. Further investigation is underway to determine the identity of the deceased individual and clarify if they were a firefighter. Additional information regarding the purpose of the fire truck ride is also pending. On a related note, an annual firefighter memorial ceremony at the Minnesota State Capitol is scheduled to commence on Sunday.
