Fatal crash in McDonald County claims life of one-year-old
A tragic incident occurred on I-49 near Goodman on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a one-year-old child from Joplin and minor injuries to a local woman. The crash happened when a 22-year-old Joplin resident driving a 2012 Honda Accord collided with the rear of a towed unit attached to a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia due to southbound traffic stopping for an animal on the road. The child was pronounced dead at a Neosho hospital, while the woman was taken to a Joplin hospital for treatment. Both individuals had been wearing seat belts. Thankfully, the 55-year-old truck driver from Laurinburg, NC, involved in the crash was unharmed. This accident marked the 34th fatality crash of 2025 for Highway Patrol Troop D.
