Fatal crash in East Bay; CHP officers injured in pursuit incident
Two individuals have tragically lost their lives and three others, including two California Highway Patrol officers, were gravely injured in an incident on Interstate 238 in San Leandro over the weekend. The series of events began when two CHP officers attempted to stop a speeding white Mercedes on Interstate 580 in Castro Valley. The driver then fled, leading to a pursuit that ended in a fatal crash involving the fleeing car and the pursuing officers on Interstate 238. CHP reported that both the driver and a passenger were killed in the crash, while another passenger sustained serious injuries. The CHP officers involved in the pursuit also suffered major injuries after their patrol car collided with a sound wall. The investigation into these tragic events is ongoing, with multiple agencies responding to the scene.
