Fatal crash in Commerce Township involving alcohol

A tragic incident occurred in Commerce Township, Michigan, where a 30-year-old man lost his life in a crash that left two others injured. The collision involving three cars took place on Friday evening near North Pontiac Trail and Martin Parkway. According to authorities, a 51-year-old man from Sterling Heights was driving a Lexus when the vehicle veered off the road, traveled through grass, and reentered the road, ultimately crashing into a Chevrolet which then hit a Honda. The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Matthew John Szakal from Waterford Township and unfortunately passed away at the scene. The driver of the Lexus sustained serious injuries and is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at a high speed. A blood sample was taken from him through a search warrant. Thankfully, the woman driving the Honda only suffered minor injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Oakland County's crash reconstruction team.
