
Fatal crash following red light violation on State Route 22 in Indiana County
Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating a tragic accident that took place on Friday evening along State Route 22 in Burrell Township. The incident involved two vehicles at the intersection of Resort Plaza Drive and State Route 22 just before 4 p.m. According to reports, a driver traveling eastbound on State Route 22 failed to stop at a red light and collided with another vehicle that was turning left from Resort Plaza Drive onto the road. Despite efforts to avoid the crash, the first vehicle struck the second one, causing the first vehicle to overturn and come to a stop on its side, while the second vehicle spun 180 degrees before stopping. The driver of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital. One passenger from the second vehicle was taken by ambulance to a Pittsburgh hospital, and another passenger was transported to a hospital in Indiana County. Tragically, a female passenger from the second vehicle later succumbed to her injuries. The investigation resulted in the closure of both east and westbound lanes for three hours.
