Fatal crash during Cairo traffic stop.
Two New York State troopers are recovering after their patrol vehicle was rear-ended during a traffic stop on Route 23 in Cairo, New York. The incident occurred before 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The troopers had stopped a vehicle and were outside when their patrol car was hit. Fortunately, the troopers have non-life threatening injuries and have been discharged from local hospitals after evaluation. The driver of the third vehicle, Sharon Torres, 69, sadly passed away at the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and are asking any witnesses to contact NYSP at (845) 344-5300.
