Fatal crash claims lives of 6-year-old girl and teenage boy

A tragic accident occurred in Madera County, Calif., where a 6-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy lost their lives, and four other individuals were injured following a collision between a van and a big rig. The incident took place on Saturday evening near Road 24 and Avenue 7, west of Ripperdan. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene after receiving a report of a crash between the two vehicles. The van, carrying five occupants, was moving southbound on Road 24 and failed to stop at a sign, entering the path of an oncoming big rig hauling two trailers on Avenue 7. The collision resulted in the van being broadsided, causing the 6-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy to be ejected. The boy tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the girl was taken to Valley Children's Hospital where she later passed away. The driver of the van, along with three other adults inside and the big rig driver, sustained moderate to major injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The California Highway Patrol believes that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. As of now, the identities of the two children have not been released.
