Fatal crash at key L.A. freeway junction: CHP
A fatal car crash occurred in Sherman Oaks early Saturday morning, resulting in at least one fatality, according to authorities. California Highway Patrol officers were called to the northbound 405 Freeway, just north of the 101 Freeway interchange, at 3:28 a.m. due to the collision. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered one individual had died at the scene, with no additional information about the victim's identity provided. It remains unclear if there were any other injuries. Video footage captured by KTLA's photojournalist John Neis shows one of the vehicles involved facing against traffic. Following the incident, a full freeway closure was put in place affecting the 101 Freeway transition routes to the 405, both of which were temporarily shut down by CHP. By 8:10 a.m., the area was cleared and the 405 Freeway had reopened. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, though there is no evidence suggesting any vehicle was driving in the wrong direction. This information was reported by Sofia Pop Perez, Luis Zuñiga, and KTLA's John Neis.
