Fatal crash: 1 person killed
A fatal three-car collision occurred in Woodville Township on Sunday, resulting in the death of a man. The incident took place near milepost 77 of the Ohio Turnpike close to the Blue Heron rest area. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash involved a 20-year-old man from Sandusky driving a Ford Mustang, a 69-year-old man from Sterling Heights, Michigan driving an International semi, and a 47-year-old man from University Heights driving a Ford Bronco. The semi caught fire after the Mustang collided with it and then struck the Bronco. Unfortunately, Roderick Rife, the driver of the semi, passed away at the scene. The Mustang's driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Toledo, while the Bronco's driver was unharmed. Following the crash, both eastbound and westbound lanes of the turnpike were shut down for an hour, with only the right lanes later reopening to ease traffic flow. The release did not mention whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident, and investigations are ongoing with no citations issued as of Monday.
