
Fatal collision on I-787 in Albany
The New York State Police are investigating two major accidents that occurred on I-787 and the Thruway in Albany on Sunday morning, with one of the crashes resulting in a fatality, according to authorities. An incident on I-787 northbound occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. when a driver traveling in the wrong direction collided head-on with another vehicle near Exit 2. The driver of the northbound vehicle suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the wrong-way driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. Due to the crash, all northbound lanes on I-787 between the Thruway and Exit 3 are currently shut down for accident reconstruction and are expected to reopen by noon. Additionally, another serious crash on the Thruway in Albany has led to the closure of the Exit 6a off-ramp onto I-787 southbound, as reported by the State Police.
