Fatal collision kills man from Grove

A tragic collision involving four vehicles in Grove, Oklahoma, has resulted in the loss of a Grove man's life, as reported by Grove Police Chief Mark Morris. The victim, Donald Dean Russell, 67, was fatally injured in the multi-vehicle incident that occurred on Friday. Russell was driving south on US 59 when, for reasons unknown, he veered into the turn lane near Estates Drive and crossed into the northbound lane, where he collided with a Chevy Silverado operated by Bailey James Stanphill, 50, of Afton. The impact caused Russell's vehicle to spin and hit another vehicle driven by Christopher Lee Goad, 54, of Afton, who was traveling behind Stanphill. Russell's car rolled over, causing him to be ejected through the sunroof. The collision resulted in the removal of the driver's side wheels from both Russell's and Stanphill's vehicles. One of the wheels struck a Mazda SUV driven by Edyth Rose Gatlin, 47, of Oklahoma City, who was traveling behind Russell in the southbound lane. The crash led to the closure of US 59 between E. 16th St. and E.21 Street, with traffic being redirected through Wolf Creek Park for approximately two hours.
