A 69-year-old woman in Santa Ana tragically lost her life after being hit by a garbage truck while crossing the street early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near Shelton Street and Bishop Street, close to Pio Pico Elementary School. The victim, identified as Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the preliminary investigation suggests that the garbage truck was turning right at a roundabout when it struck the pedestrian. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. City officials expressed their sympathies to the victim's loved ones and assured support for those affected by the accident near the school. A crisis team has been mobilized to assist PPES students and staff.
