Fatal car crash in St. John the Baptist Parish injures seven
A tragic accident occurred in St. John the Baptist Parish leading to the death of a woman and injury of seven others on Sunday, Aug. 17. The Louisiana State Police reported that Roxann Thompson, 59, from Des Allemands, lost her life in the collision. Details from the preliminary investigation show that Thompson was a passenger in a 2010 Honda Ridgeline traveling north on US 61 near LA 3179. Simultaneously, a 2021 Nissan Altima was also heading north on US 61 near LA 3179. For reasons being investigated, the Nissan switched lanes and moved into the left northbound lane of US 61, resulting in the collision with the Honda. The impact caused the Honda to hit a 2020 Hyundai Elantra traveling south on US 61. Thompson sustained severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where she later passed away. The driver of the Honda, along with the driver and passenger of the Nissan, as well as the driver and three young passengers in the Hyundai, all suffered severe injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The authorities are currently investigating the crash.
