Fatal Car Crash in Northern Kentucky

A fatal crash occurred in Burlington, Kentucky on Friday, resulting in one death and another individual being hospitalized. The incident occurred at 4 a.m. when Boone County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of a serious crash at the junction of East Bend Road and Possum Path Road. It was reported that a vehicle traveling in the westbound direction failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the opposing lane, and eventually crashed into a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn and block both sides of the road. The driver, identified as Matthew Combs, 48, from Burlington, was pronounced dead at the site, while a passenger was rescued by emergency responders and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. The road was closed for several hours for investigations but has since reopened. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the incident, with speed being considered a contributing factor. Although it has not been determined whether alcohol or drug impairment played a role, Combs was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while the passenger was wearing one.
