A tragic crash in Wolfe County resulted in the loss of two lives, with two individuals sustaining injuries and two others in critical condition at local hospitals, as reported by Kentucky State Police on Oct. 8. The incident on the Mountain Parkway at mile marker 47 led to the closure of both directions of traffic after a collision between two vehicles. The crash occurred when a Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by 58-year-old Robby Burchett veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Russell Sowers of Summerfield, Florida. Burchett suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Claire Regional Medical Center, while his passenger, 56-year-old Robin Burchett, sadly passed away at the scene. Sowers and three passengers in his car were transported to Morgan County Appalachian Regional Healthcare in West Liberty, with one passenger, 27-year-old Katelyn Harmon, also succumbing to her injuries. Among the injured, a two-year-old is stable and a nine-year-old remains in critical condition, along with Sowers. Following a temporary closure lasting approximately four hours, the road has since reopened. State police are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
