Fatal accident in Pontiac claims three lives, including two children

Authorities believe that speed was a contributing factor in a tragic crash in Pontiac that resulted in the deaths of an adult and two children on Friday night. The incident occurred at the junction of Montcalm and Joslyn roads at approximately 8:20 p.m. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 21-year-old Pontiac resident was operating a 2022 Honda Civic southbound on Joslyn when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and went off the road to the east. Following the impact with various signs and poles, the car re-entered Montcalm where it collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red light. Emergency responders, including STAR EMS and the Waterford Regional Fire Department, quickly arrived on the scene and provided lifesaving aid before transporting the victims to nearby hospitals. Tragically, the driver of the Malibu, a 37-year-old Pontiac resident, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. Two young passengers in the Malibu, aged 6 and 4 from Pontiac, also succumbed to their injuries after being taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital. Meanwhile, a third child, aged 9, remains in critical condition at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak. The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities suspect that speed was a key factor in the accident and are also exploring the potential involvement of alcohol or drugs. Sheriff Michael Bouchard expressed deep condolences to the affected family, acknowledging the immense pain caused by this heartbreaking event.
