Fatal accident claims 20-year-old on south side of Milwaukee
A tragic incident occurred at the intersection of 27th and Parnell on Milwaukee's south side, resulting in the unfortunate passing of 20-year-old Jose Delgado Velez, as confirmed by his family. The car's driver has been detained following the collision, with potential charges being evaluated by the district attorney's office. Recent footage captured by 12 News displayed the moment of impact between the moped and the car, creating sparks upon contact. A fellow moped rider, Malik Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the distress caused by sudden loss of life. Debris from the collision, including vehicle parts and glass, remains at the scene. A certified CPR and first aid provider, Hazim Amro, tried to assist Velez, employing emergency techniques as he described his efforts. Velez's loved ones remembered him fondly as a remarkable partner, son, and sibling who brought joy to every room he entered. Following the tragedy, Mohammed advised fellow riders to adopt a more defensive driving approach and be attentive to distant road conditions. Alcohol was confirmed not to be a contributing factor in the accident.
