Employee's death at Jacob's Pillow was caused by identified factor
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that Jacob's Pillow staff member Kat Sirico tragically passed away due to a workplace accident at the dance center in Becket, Massachusetts. The accident occurred as Sirico, a production manager, and a summer intern were moving staging platforms and a dolly rolled downhill, resulting in Sirico falling and being run over. The Berkshire County District Attorney's office confirmed that the incident was considered a workplace accident, and no charges were filed. The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was accidental, resulting from a blunt impact injury to the head when Sirico was crushed by a wooden cart. Paying tribute to Sirico, Jacob's Pillow described them as an essential part of their team and an alumnus of the organization. The University of Rochester also honored Sirico, a lecturer in dance production and lighting design at the college. In response to the tragedy, Jacob's Pillow made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of its summer festival, which was set to run until August 24 and showcase world-class dancers.
