Emergency teams react to collision on Red Mountain Pass via Million Dollar Highway
A portion of the Million Dollar Highway in southwest Colorado will be closed Thursday afternoon to remove a vehicle that crashed near Red Mountain Pass earlier in the day. The Ouray County Sheriff's Office reported a single-vehicle accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. at milemarker 88 on US 550, south of Ouray. While southbound US 550 temporarily shut down at the County Road 361 intersection after the incident, it was reopened by 2:45 p.m. However, a closure for vehicle recovery was expected about an hour later. Further information on the crash was not immediately provided. In a similar incident this summer near milemarker 88, two adults lost their lives and a minor was rescued after their vehicle tumbled down a mountainside along the Million Dollar Highway.
