DUI arrest follows serious injuries in Old Lyme crash
A woman in Old Lyme, Connecticut is facing charges, including DUI, after a crash that left her passenger seriously injured. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when Kelsey Velez, 30, of Derby, was driving a pickup truck and hit a utility pole. Velez's passenger, a 23-year-old male, sustained serious injuries. Velez was found by state troopers displaying signs of impairment and failing a sobriety test. She is charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, and interfering with an officer. The passenger was taken to a medical center and then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital due to the severity of injuries. Velez is currently in custody at the York Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bond and is set to appear at New London Superior Court tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
