A suspect was critically injured in a fiery crash involving a Miami-Dade deputy's patrol car after a brief police pursuit early Wednesday morning. During a press conference, Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office spokesperson Angel Rodriguez stated that around 2:30 a.m., deputies were chasing a suspect who was traveling southbound on 87th Avenue. The suspect then collided with a deputy's patrol car multiple times, causing the deputy to be struck several times. Following the collision, the suspect lost control of their vehicle, crashing into a tree and causing a fire. Emergency responders were able to extinguish the fire and transport the driver to a hospital in critical condition. The name of the driver has not been provided at this time. The deputy involved is expected to recover from minor injuries. A nearby resident, Max Menendez, recounted hearing the crash and witnessing the aftermath, describing it as a distressing scene with black smoke and the sound of someone in distress. Due to the incident, a section of SW 87th Avenue is closed for several hours, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
