Driver in deadly Red Mountain Pass crash had high levels of marijuana in system
A recent tragic incident on Highway 550 in Ouray County, Colorado involved a driver, Louis Michael, who had a significantly high level of Delta 9 THC in his system, as per a report by The Denver Post. The autopsy revealed that Michael had about 192 nanograms per milliliter of Delta 9 THC in his blood – almost 40 times the legal limit for driving in Colorado, which is under 5 nanograms per milliliter. Sadly, his passenger, 79-year-old Leoba Valdez, also lost her life in the crash and had no substances in her system. The accident occurred on Aug 5, just 5 miles south of Ouray, when the car veered off the road, plummeted down the mountain, and landed upside down in the river. Emergency responders were able to rescue a young female passenger who was trapped in the vehicle and she was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Unfortunately, this was not the only fatal crash in the area during August, as another incident resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman near mile marker 90 on Aug. 23.
