Driver identified in fatal Bladensburg birthday party collision

Law enforcement officials have identified the individual who allegedly drove a vehicle into the front yard of a home in Bladensburg during a child's birthday party, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to 13 others. The driver, 66-year-old Sunday Joseph, was reportedly reversing his vehicle when it entered the yard where a party tent was set up, just before 10:15 p.m. on Saturday. Acting Police Chief Daniel Frishkorn announced at a press briefing that charges have been filed against Joseph, who initially fled the scene but surrendered the next morning for questioning by crash investigators. Despite being alone in the car during the incident, Joseph left the area on foot. The authorities have taken possession of the vehicle, but Joseph is currently not detained. While the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash has not been disclosed, Frishkorn noted that investigations are ongoing, with no prior driving infractions on Joseph's record and a valid license. The Chief reported that 14 individuals were harmed, with a 31-year-old woman succumbing to her injuries. As of Monday, one child and two adults were still hospitalized, with police officers intervening upon discovering the situation, assisting in removing the vehicle from trapped victims.
