
Driver faces felony murder and DUI charges after deadly SR-246 collision
A man, Jesus Moises Martinez Chavira, has been accused of felony murder and DUI charges in connection with a fatal crash on SR-246 earlier this month. Santa Barbara County District Attorney John Savrnoch announced the charges against Martinez Chavira, who allegedly caused the death of one person in the September 5 incident. It is claimed that Martinez Chavira was driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in serious harm to another individual. Martinez Chavira, 46, appeared in Santa Maria Superior Court for arraignment on Tuesday, with bail set at $2 million. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation, while the prosecution is led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Madison Whitmore and Deputy District Attorney Ryan Clausen. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 1, as per the District Attorney's Office.
