Driver collides with fire truck on Route 288 in Goochland County

A 20-year-old man from Midlothian, Virginia, sustained serious injuries in the early hours of Saturday after colliding with a Goochland County fire truck that was responding to a prior crash on Route 288. The incident began with a single-vehicle crash on southbound Route 288 at the James River Bridge in Goochland County around midnight on Saturday. The first crash involved a car striking a guardrail. While Goochland firefighters were present at the scene, their fire truck with emergency lights on was blocking the left lane when another vehicle crashed into it. The driver of that car, identified as Edgar Ruiz Carrillo, 20, from Midlothian, was severely injured. Fortunately, no firefighters were harmed in the second collision. The driver from the initial crash was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Virginia State Police are currently investigating both incidents.
