A driver in Harlingen has been charged in the death of a tow truck driver, as per records from Cameron County court. Cristobal Stephan Garzez, 28, faces charges including manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance. The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, when Garzez allegedly collided with the tow truck driven by 46-year-old David Zapata, resulting in Zapata's death. Garzez is scheduled for a bond reduction hearing on Oct. 13 and an arraignment hearing on Nov. 4.
