Detroit police ramp up traffic enforcement in east side to reduce deadly accidents.
There is regular speeding on Gratiot Avenue in Detroit, resulting in recent tragic accidents that have prompted law enforcement to take action. The Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted numerous speeding stops, aiming to deter drivers from breaking the law. Corporal Charo Turner stressed the importance of slowing down drivers to prevent further fatalities, even if it means issuing tickets. Police Captain Sederick Dunbar explained that the stops are not just for ticketing, but also for educating and changing driver behavior. Despite the frustration it may cause drivers, the officers see this work as personal and necessary to protect the community. Over 300 tickets have been issued in the past month as part of these speeding operations. While there has been a slight decrease in fatal accidents this year, law enforcement is determined to lower those numbers even more. Different traffic stings will be held across the city in the upcoming months, with the goal of preventing more tragedies. Cpl. Turner emphasized the desire to avoid any further loss of life.
