Deadly pedestrian crash claims life of 64-year-old in Wilmington

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Wilmington. The incident involved a 64-year-old man who was hit and fatally injured while crossing West Newport Pike. Authorities are currently seeking witnesses for any information regarding the collision that took place on September 18 at 1:23 p.m. near Rothwell Drive. The pedestrian, from Mexico, was struck by a Nissan Sentra while crossing the street. Witnesses have reported that the traffic light was green for the vehicle and the pedestrian was believed to be in the crosswalk. The driver of the Sentra, a 73-year-old woman from Wilmington, was unharmed. Identity of the victim is being withheld at this time. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation and is urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to Corporal D. McKenna or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
