Deadly Gilbert crash: Excessive speeds, severe DUI alleged

New information has surfaced regarding a tragic incident in Gilbert where two women lost their lives in a suspected DUI crash. On September 19, a 35-year-old driver collided with and fatally injured 36-year-old Nicole Snell, a ride-share driver, and 33-year-old Marisa Jorgenson, a passenger. The accident occurred on Recker and Ray Roads before 9 pm. Authorities believe impairment played a role in the crash, and the driver was also hospitalized on the night of the collision. He has been receiving medical treatment since the incident and has not yet been taken into custody. Recent details from a police report obtained by ABC15 reveal that the driver was speeding between 89-96 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. Witnesses reported that he was driving at an excessively high speed, and he also collided with another vehicle before running a red light at the intersection. Marisa Jorgenson’s parents expressed shock at the excessive speed of the driver and the devastation their family has endured since losing Marisa. Police records indicate that the driver had a blood alcohol content of .287, over three times the legal limit, and had open containers of alcohol in his car. Law enforcement is recommending various charges against the driver, including two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of endangerment, and one count of animal cruelty. The arrest of the driver remains uncertain as he continues to receive medical care.
