Dead following two-vehicle collision on I-680 SB in Boardman

A man from Pennsylvania tragically lost his life in a fatal two-car collision on Interstate-680 Southbound in Boardman, Ohio. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on a Friday near the Route 224 overpass at milepost 12. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that both vehicles were travelling southbound in the left lane when 39-year-old Alex Lowry of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, driving a 2014 Dodge Charger, rear-ended a Nissan Rogue. This collision caused Lowry to veer off the left side of the road, hitting the guard rail and three concrete bridge supports, resulting in his ejection as the Dodge overturned. Sadly, Lowry was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield is leading the investigation and has mentioned that speed may have played a role in the accident. Following a three-hour closure, I-680 has been reopened after the Ohio Department of Transportation confirmed the safety of the bridge structure. Multiple emergency response teams including Boardman police and fire, along with the Mahoning County Coroner's Office, were on-site. Contributions to this report were made by Josh Frketic and Alex Imwalle.
