Criminal charges brought in deadly Provo Canyon collision

An Orem resident, Zachary Alan Ingalls, is facing criminal charges following a car crash in Provo Canyon that resulted in the death of his passenger. Ingalls, 32, has been accused of negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death and obstruction of justice. The incident occurred when Ingalls flagged down another driver and informed them that his vehicle had rolled off the road, with his passenger unable to be awakened. Police investigations found the deceased passenger, 25-year-old Kortnie Benson Barajas, in the wreckage, pinned between the driver's seat and the driver's door. Ingalls initially provided false information about the driver of the vehicle and later tested positive for THC. This is not the first time Ingalls has been involved in a crash while under the influence of THC. In a previous incident, he caused serious injuries to a passenger due to negligent driving, resulting in permanent brain damage to the victim. Ingalls was convicted in that case and sentenced to prison. Furthermore, Ingalls was recently charged with DUI and is due to appear in court in October.
