Criminal charges against 7 suspects in fatal collision during escape from burglary
Seven men have been charged with felonies following a fatal crash on the Magnificent Mile, which occurred shortly after they reportedly fled a smash-and-grab robbery at a luxury retail store. The incident began at 5 a.m. on Thursday at the Louis Vuitton store near East Walton Street. The men allegedly used a pickup truck to break into the store and steal approximately $180,000 worth of merchandise before fleeing in multiple vehicles. One of the groups involved in the robbery crashed into a Honda CR-V, resulting in the death of the Honda's driver, identified as Mark Carlo Arceta. Five individuals in a Kia Stinger were detained at the crash site. Meanwhile, another group in an Audi Q50 crashed on Lake Shore Drive, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of stolen items. All seven suspects will attend a detention hearing in court on Saturday.
