Colchester's Main Street reopens post-home crash

A main road in Colchester has been reopened following an incident on Route 2A where a driver experienced a medical emergency and crashed into a home. The Colchester Police Department shut down a portion of Main Street in the Village of Colchester around 10 a.m. after a pickup truck with a trailer attached collided with a home due to the driver's medical issue. Emergency responders extracted the 84-year-old driver from the vehicle and transported him to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment. Authorities confirmed that speed or impairment did not play a role in the accident, which also caused damage to a fence, road sign, and bushes. Despite initial reports, the driver survived the crash and is currently hospitalized. The impact resulted in moderate structural damage to the home, prompting the Vermont Urban Search and Rescue Team to assess its safety. Fortunately, the occupants of the home exited safely without any injuries.
