Child dies in Dunwoody accident; DUI arrest made
An 8-year-old girl tragically lost her life in Dunwoody following a collision, as reported by the police. The incident occurred on Saturday around 9:25 p.m. on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. According to authorities, a Honda Civic exiting an apartment complex was struck from behind by a Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Tacoma, identified as Jose Alejandro Cuahuizo-Varela, attempted to flee but was apprehended by Doraville police officers. The young girl from the Tacoma was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Honda driver was hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital, with no information on her current state released by the police. Cuahuizo-Varela was arrested on various charges including homicide by vehicle, hit-and-run, DUI, and reckless driving after being treated at the hospital and placed in DeKalb County Jail. Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, and the victim's identity, being a minor, may not be disclosed.
