Charges laid against St. Paul man for hit-and-run resulting in death of 30-year-old woman
A man from St. Paul, Minnesota, has been accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old woman. Michael Kentrell Smith, 38, is facing charges of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with the tragic collision in St. Paul. The incident happened at the intersection of St. Anthony Avenue and Aldine Street, where officers responded to the crash around 5:14 p.m. They found the woman near a crosswalk with severe injuries, and she later passed away at the hospital. The victim has been identified as Amber Deneen by her family. According to the charges, the woman and her husband were walking their two German shepherds in the area when they were struck by an SUV driven by Smith. Despite initially denying involvement in the accident, Smith later admitted to being at the scene but claimed he thought he had hit traffic cones instead of the victims. The evidence against him includes surveillance video showing his SUV leaving the crash scene at high speed. Smith explained that he has a traumatic brain injury from a previous car accident that affects his memory.
