Charges filed against man in deadly hit-and-run of 19-year-old on e-bike in Westmoreland County
A man is facing serious charges after driving with a suspended license and allegedly hitting and killing a 19-year-old cyclist in Westmoreland County. The authorities are searching for William Sever, 37, wanted for various offenses including accidents involving death and tampering with evidence in the tragic incident that resulted in the death of Jayden Lynch. Witnesses reported that Lynch was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bike in Hempfield Township. Despite two drivers offering assistance, they could only provide a vague description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Following the crash, the suspect's bumper detached, which enabled law enforcement to determine the make and model of the vehicle. Subsequent investigations using traffic cameras and license plate readers led the police to a residence in Jeannette where they found both the vehicle owner and Sever hiding inside. The owner revealed that Sever had borrowed the car on the day of the incident, a fact corroborated by witness testimonies and cell phone data placing Sever at the scene. Further incriminating evidence included the presence of duct tape on the driver's side mirror, suggesting an attempt to conceal the crime. Sever's license had been suspended due to a prior DUI conviction. Those with information about Sever's location are urged to contact state police in Greensburg at 724-832-3288.
