Capture of one of three monkeys that escaped after Mississippi truck crash

A Mississippi homeowner recently took action to protect her family from escaped monkeys following a truck accident last week. Jessica Bond Ferguson, the homeowner, recounted her son's sighting of a monkey in their yard near Heidelberg, Mississippi, early one Sunday. Concerned about the potential diseases the monkeys might carry, Bond decided to shoot at the monkey, resulting in its unfortunate demise. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office noted the incident, with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks taking possession of the monkey. The initial truck accident on Interstate 59 involved 21 Rhesus monkeys, with most perishing and three escaping. Despite assurances from Tulane officials that the monkeys were not infectious, the sheriff emphasized the need to deal with the escaped monkeys due to their aggressive behavior.
