Cape Coral teacher honored for bravery and kindness after tragic accident
A well-loved biology teacher from Ida S. Baker High School tragically passed away in a car accident on Friday morning. She is survived by her husband, two young children, and many students whose lives she influenced. The accident was described by Cape Coral Police as occurring when Alexandra Ashby, fondly known as Alex, crashed into a utility pole. Alcohol and drugs were reported to not have played a role in the incident. As a dedicated teacher, mother, and wife, Alex was deeply cherished by her family. Her husband, Taylor Ashby, a fellow teacher at North Fort Myers High School, shared how Alex always extended a helping hand to those in need and kept granola bars in her drawer for students. Despite battling cystic fibrosis, Alex never wavered in her positivity and determination. Taylor spoke of her courage in defying expectations and leaving a lasting impact on their lives, students, friends, and their children. He expressed pride in Alex’s strength and resilience in the face of her health challenges. Taylor reflected on the love he had for his wife and the support he and their children continue to have for her. A GoFundMe page has been set up to aid the Ashby family during this difficult time.
