California driver charged with DUI, promptly forgetting accident occurred

A woman from San Bernardino County was taken into custody after she was suspected of driving while intoxicated and causing her SUV to roll over following an incident where she hit a parked unoccupied vehicle. The event took place on September 19th near the corner of A Street and 2nd Avenue in Upland and was recorded on surveillance cameras. Although the speed at which the woman was driving is uncertain, video footage shows her SUV colliding with the parked vehicle, causing it to flip onto its roof after the impact. Despite no visible severe injuries in the footage shared by the Upland Police Department, it was mentioned that the woman, with a blood alcohol content of .23 – almost three times the legal limit of .08, reportedly forgot about the accident during questioning. As noted in a UPD social media post, the woman not only faced DUI charges and a day in county jail but also had her own SUV totaled, and caused damage to another vehicle, with additional consequences involving court appearances, insurance matters, DMV hearings, and penalties surpassing $10,000. The California Office of Traffic Safety's website stressed that drunk driving continues to be a leading factor in fatal and severe injury collisions on Californian roads, with over 1,300 deaths recorded in 2023 resulting from alcohol-related accidents.
