Boston ceases construction work following worker's injury

City officials in Boston ceased work at a construction site following an incident where a worker was injured and sent to the hospital. Emergency responders were called to the scene around 11:28 a.m. at 575 Albany Street where a construction worker had been injured. In order to rescue the worker, who was on the third floor of the building that had much of its interior gutted and temporary stairs, firefighters used a ladder and a basket to bring the worker out safely through a window. The injured worker, who was conscious and alert, was transported to the hospital by firefighters while being monitored by Boston EMS and observed by Sky5 from above. A nearby employee mentioned that exterior scaffolding had been erected at the site the previous week. While fire officials speculated that a stack of staging frames could have caused the injury, the construction company owner claimed that the worker, a subcontractor, had slipped and hit his head. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified about the incident. The Boston Inspectional Services (BIS) team issued a work stoppage order due to significant safety violations witnessed at the site, noting the absence of a qualified supervisor during the worker's injury. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday morning involving the contractor and others to discuss safety protocols, and they are required to submit detailed safety plans along with an engineer's certification regarding the current conditions.
