Additional charges filed against ex-Eden dump truck driver in fatal April crash

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Michael Vernon, a former dump truck driver from Eden, in connection with a tragic accident that claimed the lives of four linemen back in April. The victims, who lost their lives in the crash, were Douglas Garland Sides (72) from Summerfield, Madison Carter (32) from Sandy Ridge, William Evans (35) from Randleman, and Matthew Lockwood (30) from Winston-Salem. In addition to the fatalities, three other individuals sustained injuries in the incident. Vernon was taken into custody by deputies around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday on charges including four counts of second-degree murder and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. He appeared in court on Wednesday where his bail was set at $1.6 million. Vernon is set to hire his own legal representation, and his next court date is scheduled for January 5th.
