Accident with North Allegheny school buses on PA Turnpike injures 8
Eight people were hospitalized following an incident with two North Allegheny School District buses on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Plum on Friday. Superintendent Brendan Hyland reported in a communication to parents that two buses transporting students to a football game were involved in the crash, while the football team had arrived safely at the game location before the incident. Although initially there were no apparent injuries, first responders assessed the students and six students with minor injuries, along with two adults, were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Details on their conditions were not immediately available, but Allegheny Health Network discharged two of the three patients received that night. The remaining students were treated at the scene. The district expressed gratitude for the professionalism of all who responded, including band volunteers and personnel. Witnesses described the incident as a fender bender where a truck cut off the lead bus, causing the following bus to collide. The emergency response was prompt, and pictures from the scene show the buses pulled over alongside EMS crews at the Turnpike's service plaza.
