An 80-year-old woman from Felton tragically lost her life in a head-on collision on Saturday morning in Santa Cruz County. The elderly victim was driving her red 1967 Volkswagen Beetle northbound on Highway 9 when it collided with a silver 2006 Toyota Sequoia in the Ben Lomond area near Brackney Road. The California Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the Volkswagen sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts to save her. The Toyota driver was unharmed. The crash, which occurred at 8:20 a.m., is still being investigated, and factors such as speed, drugs, or alcohol have not yet been determined. CHP emphasized the importance of seatbelt safety in their statement following the tragic incident.
