75-year-old dies in Lake County hit-and-run DUI collision
A tragic incident occurred on Monday night when a 75-year-old man was walking along Radio Road near Patrick Drive and was struck and killed by a car. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 37-year-old Kevin Edward Custer is now facing charges of leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash and DUI manslaughter in connection with the incident. The collision took place near the entrance of Graceway Church, which had just finished hosting an evening concert. Staff at the church mentioned they were unaware if the man who tragically lost his life was a member of their congregation. After the crash, Custer allegedly fled the scene without providing necessary aid, as mandated by law. However, he was later returned to the scene by a family member for questioning by troopers and subsequently taken into custody. Custer was then booked into Lake County jail, and at his initial court appearance, a bond of $40,000 was set and promptly paid for his release. Despite efforts to contact him at his home, Custer was not available for comment. His father shared that his son reported the victim was not walking on the side of the road but in the traffic lane. Kevin Custer has a prior DUI arrest from 2013 and could potentially face significant consequences if found guilty in this latest incident.
