7 killed in UPS plane crash and blast at Kentucky airport

A UPS cargo plane crashed and exploded while taking off from an airport in Louisville, Kentucky, leading to the tragic deaths of at least nine individuals and numerous injuries. There are still 16 people unaccounted for. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. during the plane's departure to Honolulu from Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the crash, noting visible flames and smoke before the aircraft crashed and burst into flames. The death toll has since risen to at least nine, with four of the victims not being passengers on the plane. Furthermore, 11 people sustained injuries, some severe, as reported by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. The crash impacted nearby businesses, including Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and an auto parts operation. UPS has temporarily paused package sorting at their main facility in Louisville, which handles a high volume of packages daily. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft involved in the crash was fully fueled due to its long journey, contributing to the intensity of the fire that ensued. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation. Viewer discretion is advised due to the graphic nature of footage showing the crash.
